The majority of the general public might walk past a construction site and think of it as an empty, unfinished allotment with not much going on. The latest research from the CIOB suggests that 91% of construction sites deal with thefts and vandalism on a regular basis.
It is not only the cost of replacing the equipment and material, but also the delay in work, repairing damage and dealing with employee counselling which can add to the bill. Altogether, this can become a hefty price tag.
It has been estimated that the construction industry suffers losses of more than £400 million a year due to vandalism and theft. Remarkably, the same research by CIOB also suggests that at least 12.2% of construction sites do not use security guards.
It is not recommendable to save on the cost of hiring security, as the above stats demonstrate that it can result in a much higher bill. Protecting a construction site is not an easy job.
